Six innings of perfect, three days of winning: sweet sweep!

Tigers 7
Royals 1

Recap:

  • Armando Galarraga sat down 18 Royals batters in a row before the 19th singled. That was really the big story of the day. Unfortunately, I think you could tell it wasn’t going to end in a perfect game or no-hitter. (Well, definitely not a perfect game, given how he was losing his location as the game progressed). I got the sinking feeling that he woudln’t survive the 7th inning after the Tigers tacked on two more runs, leaving him on the bench to think about the perfect for 15 or 20 minutes.
  • The Big Cat held steady in the 7th and escaped after only allowing one run, despite struggling. The wheels appeared to come off but he did a nice job staying in the game.
  • Polanco and Magglio both had three hits. Shades of 2007?
  • The Tigers’ offense stayed consistent in all three games. And other than a little Freddy Dolsi struggle in the series opener, it could have been a real blowout. As it is, the Tigers only outscored the Royals, 33-6. Not a bad showing.
  • The Twins were swept by the Yankees, which was great. It helped Detroit close to within 3 games of second place. Unfortunately the White Sox rallied on the Rangers and stayed 5.5 games up.
