Tigers sink Royals after rain delay
posted in 2008 season, KC Royals |Tigers 7

Recap:
- While most Tigers fans probably went to bed secure in the knowledge the Tigers couldn’t possibly blow a nice lead to the Royals, I watched the whole game just to make sure. So in case you wondered, yeah it went fine after the rain delay. A few quick observations :
- Fernando Rodney looked solid. He gave up a leadoff hit in the 7th after the 2.5 hour rain delayed ended, then settled in to get the next six batters out, four of them with strikeouts. Remember that whole thing with us not missing Rodney if he was traded? Scratch that. The Tigers need Rodney, especially this form of him.
- Joel Zumaya cruised in the ninth. Yes, he gave up a triple. The ball was hit to the center field fence, found a lovely puddle and had a splash down. It made for a pretty cool center field fence. It also made for a slippery baseball for Granderson, who didn’t get a good grip first attempt. That may have been a triple anyway given the sky-high nature of the hit but the puddle deserves an assist.
- The Royals seemed to give up and want to go home after the rain delay. Even FSN’s John Keating noticed that and mentioned it in his postgame interview with Joel Zumaya.
- Hopefully those same Royals show up at the ballpark later this morning and the Tigers pick up the sweep.
- The White Sox cruised, so they’re still 5.5 up. The Twins lost, so they’re 4 games ahead of the Tigers. This Sox series beginning Friday is gonna be huge.
