they won tonight though. Verlander, brilliant again. He is such a good student of the game. He really knows how to execute a game plan. A guy who can pretty much strike out ten and allow three or four runs or have a game like tonight. He studied how they had been hitting over the past few days and went after their over-agressiveness at the plate.

And Brandon Inge, the best play by a 3B all season. One of the top ten best of all time (at third). What a throw!! How did he get anything on it after all of his momentum was carrying him the other way. Wow! Wow! If you haven't seen it yet go to detroittigers.com and check it out. 5-1 Detroit. Verlander allows three hits through 8 2/3.

Can I rephrase your question a bit, FJ?

"Who CAN we trade away?"

The answer there is "Not too many of the ones we want to" unfortunately. I think they're stuck with Renteria and Sheffield. I don't think they'd get anything for Rodney. No one's going to want Robertson.

So to answer your question, they CAN trade Pudge, apparently, and probably should. Obviously the fear is Inge's oblique at this point. But as long as there are breathing catchers in the system who can fill in, it's not really a question of wins and losses, because this team just isn't going to have enough of the wins to matter.

Anyone else, they should probably keep.

I'm with "Not Casey" Blake. I think the first thing that went wrong with this season was...the preceeding offseason. Not necessarily the trades, but the hype and weirdness that came along with them. And who is looking forward to another round of THAT.

well, I admit that the offseason is too long and I get a bit confused about what to watch on TV. But you know, sometimes I really just want to wash this season away. "Out damned spot" it.

I'm with you Kurt. This is not a contender. It just isn't. Anyone who has watched 10 or more games knows it. I still love the Tigers and hope for the best, but I can also recognize when it's not meant to happen.

I disagree with you though on being glad when the season is over. The off season is boring and ripe for growing expectations.
