Zumaya and Rodney pitch for Toledo

posted in 2008 season |

Joel Zumaya made his first rehab appearance in Toledo, Sunday, and Fernando Rodney made his third.

Rodney threw 10 strikes in 13 pitches — not a good sign — but he did strike out the side. He also gave up a home run. Zumaya only needed 11 pitches — seven strikes — to make it through his inning of work. He did give up a single. A play-by-play is below.

Jim Hawkings reports:

Rodney, who reach 98 mph on the radar gun last time out, could rejoin the Tigers later this week. All he has to do is demonstrate to Leyland that he can consistently throw his fastball over the plate.

He adds (speculates?) Zumaya could be a couple weeks off still. I know they’ll want to see a few appearances of success in a row, but I have to think without a setback, Zoomer is going to find his way to Detroit sooner than that.
