Game 59: The calms seas of loserdom
posted in 2008 season, Oakland A's |Oakland 10
Detroit 2
Recap:
- The Tigers trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
- OOPS!
- Nate Robertson gave up his fourth run of the game — A Jack Cust Travis Buckhomer — in the sixth inning.
- Freddy Dolsi relieved him after one out in the seventh, then struck out and walked a guy.
- Casey Fossum blew up. Four runs scored. He still hadn’t recorded an out.
- Aquilino Lopez got him out of the mess.
- Tigers lose. Four hits and five walks weren’t enough to score more than two runs for this inconsistent, non-timely hitting offense.
Analysis:
- There is seriously nothing more to be said about this disappointing team.
- I hope you all are Wings fans and had something to celebrate last night.
Update:
- I almost forgot to add: Ramon Santiago separated his shoulder and is surely headed to the D.L.
I wish I was a Wings fan, I just don’t care about hockey. The Tigers need to do something drastic just for the fans sake. I’m sick of watching these same guys screw things up day in and day out.
I’m with you, Blake. Baseball and basketball I’ll watch even if I don’t care about the teams. Football I’ll watch if I have a fantasy stud in the game. Hockey… I just don’t care enough to care.
So when’s the deadline for starting to blow up this team? July 1? When do we fire Paws?
I think Paws is the problem, time for that dude (?) to go.
Geez I’ve been reading this blog site for the past year and a half and have rarely commented but I feel like for real fans of the Tigers you should never write them off no matter where in the season. Where were the Yankees last year? Everybody counting them out. You gotta understand we have warm weather players. Second half players. I say we are going to surge second half and get the wild card. I may be crazy but in all honesty it has happened to teams plenty of times. So I hate when people count them out…you my friends are called bandwagoners. If they were doing good you would be all over their nuts.
You (and we) can hope they’re a second half team, but anyone who watched the past two seasons would point out that hasn’t been the case. 2006 was a near choke-job of a large lead. 2007 was a team that went from best in the A.L. to missing the playoffs. If they play poorly in cool weather, we’re in trouble in September.
“Bandwagon” is one of those trump cards people like to play, but let’s face it, people who have followed the team for years are not bandwagon because they admit this team is not doing good and has multiple flaws that even the manager can’t figure out how to fix, despite his trying. That’s a pretty annoying accusation to hear
I’m with Kurt. I love the Tigers, but I can admit when they suck. Just because someone says there is a problem with something doesn’t mean they don’t support the bigger picture. So yeah, I do hope the Tigers pull it together here this season, it’s just looking less and less likely. As a fan I’ll continue to watch their games and follow them as closely as I can, but it will be annoying.
Also, I’d like to see some sort of evidence about the last time a team was 11 games under .500 in June and still made the playoffs. I’m sure it has happened, but not as often as Ronnie makes it sound.
FYI: In regards to last years Yankees, the furthest below .500 they ever got was 8 games below and that was on May 29th.
In Ronnie’s defense, the 2005 Houston Astros made it to the World Series after falling 15 games below .500 on May 27th. By the All Star break they were one game over .500. That should be Detroit’s goal.
Ha ha thanks Blake but yes maybe I am just “hoping” or making excuses. I’m just frusterated. Its almost to the point that watching a game is about as much fun as stabbing myself in the ear with a Q-tip. Didnt mean to offend anyone with a bandwagon comment. Its more or less the people I work with (foreigners) and they bring everything up to me when they dont even know anything about the teams history or how baseball is played or stats. Anything! It just bothers me. When the Pistons got knocked out all they wanted to do was talk to me about it and I needed a grieving time. They dont understand.
On July 1 2007, the Yankees were 11 games behind the division-leading Red Sox and 8 games behind the Wild Card-leading Tigers.
So HA!
Also another thing I wanted to say was people who walk around and say “Tigers suck” those are the ones I hate because if we do come back and make the playoffs they will be right back to rooting for them. I didnt see these people around prior to 06 and it was a lot nicer going to a game since you could sit anywhere you wanted. Ho hum, I miss the corner
I fondly remember sitting in upper deck right field at Tiger Stadium when it you your party and the usher. They’d print you tickets that said like row 10. You’d walk into your section and the usher would say ‘Why you don’t you go up to the front row to watch?”
But I’d rather the team sell out and like, win games, because I don’t remember attending many victories.
“On July 1 2007, the Yankees were 11 games behind the division-leading Red Sox and 8 games behind the Wild Card-leading Tigers.”
Not sure whether to congratulate you on makign your point about coming from behind in the standings, or to critique your point about the Tiger being a second half team!
Either way, nice research!
There wasnt very many memories but at least our team was mostly americans. Sitting up in the leather coach in right field bleachers was great. Malt cups at double-headers in a snow storm…ha ha ha.
I think the reality is that those of us following the Tigers for a long time, we’ve been through a lot of pain, 13 years of losing seasons… In 2006, it was a treat, because my highest hope was that they’d play .500 ball.
This is harsh because we all got our hopes up, and right now it feels crushing. But not to worry, those of us true fans (who’ve learned over the years when you need to scale back your emotions in regards to the Tigers) will never abandon them.
Been a Tiger’s fan since 1991. Def. used to my team always losing. But, I’m a true fan I love them and even defend them a little too much. I really don’t defend them anymore, but I do still love them. The only Tiger’s game I’ve ever been to was last year when Kenny lost to K.C. like 11-1 or something. I got to see Shef hit a bomb down the left field line, that was way worth going. I had a great time.
I hope they turn it around. But, right now all I want is to see them play with some heart. If they do that, they can lose every game and I won’t be mad.
I also think something special is going to happen with Cleveland in town and then Chicago. I’m not calling any kind of shot, but I hope my gut feeling is correct. I don’t know if that means a lot of wins or something else special, but we’ll all just have to wait and see.
Just a correction: Jack Cust did not homer yesterday, I believe he was the one that hit that sky high infield ball that Raburn promptly dropped. Travis Buck homered, his second of the year.
Thanks, right you are!
