Bloggers block
posted in Random |This is a bit meta. But I haven’t blogged as much lately, despite having the time. Whether it’s because this team is downright dispiriting and takes a step back for every step forward, whether it’s because the issues that cause the Tigers to under perform remain unchanged and I’ve already opined on them, whether it’s because Detroit’s other two teams are currently deep in the playoffs, or whether its because I’ve run out of questions to ask, I don’t know. In any case, I just haven’t done a great job blogging lately.
So I open it up to you. Bilfer and Samara had live Q&A sessions. I’ll have mine in my comments. What questions about the Tigers do you have, whether it be something I can look up or an opinion you want. I’m happy to answer.

Kurt,
Writers’ block is awful. It can haunt your soul in this weird Burroughs way as I’m sure you know. I’ll resist the almost irresistible desire to pepper you with non-tiger questions, but let’s try:
How bad are the Tigs when Inge is catching? I can’t recall the Tigers winning with him backstopping. Does he have the ability to call a big league game?
OK Kurt, I’ll try to give you some question fodder.
1. I know the Tigers are somewhat in a bind, with some big long-term contracts limiting their maneuverability. But if you were in charge, are there any specific roster moves you’d make right now?
2. What about at the trade deadline?
3. Would you make any changes in the coaching staff, and if so, when?
4. Would those changes include Leyland getting the ziggy?
Thanks Flying J.
I made the same mistake as you initially. I think I did it early this month actually. It came after Inge played catcher and the Tigers lost (as they did with him backstopping Sunday.) Well, it turns out, the Tigers won with him at catcher only three days earlier. As recently as Thursday, the Tigers won with Inge catching, while allowing just two runs.
Offhand I’d have to guess the Tigers are no better or worse than normal when he starts at catcher. If anyone knows of a way to look up which days he started at catcher, do tell. The Baseball-Reference data requires subscription but there must be another way.
ooooh man that game just killed me.
Here’s a meta question in honor of your meta post:
How concerned should we be that this season’s results to date will reduce Ilitch’s willingness to spend money on the Tigers in the future? As much as the $130 million payroll seems like a waste at this point, taking some risks on free agents is still a prerequisite to becoming a perennial contender (see: Red Sox, Boston).
