Game 42: Tigers, defense, blow … game
posted in 2008 season |Dbacks 4
Tigers 3
Recap:
- Carlos Guillen and Edgar Renteria couldn’t decide who should catch a foul ball in the seventh inning.
- Jeremy Bonderman couldn’t throw strikes that inning either.
- Zach Miner gave up the game winning run, but Bobby Seay allowed him to score. Because ….
- Guillen couldn’t throw the ball to first inning later that inning.
- So this isn’t Seay’s fault at all.
- Miguel Cabrera finally hit a home run.
- Other stuff that doesn’t matter at this point happened
Analysis:
- When the Tigers became the Yankees, no good could come of it, and no good has.
- Miner is not a close-and-late pitcher. Period. Hell, he’s not a major league pitcher. Period.
- I propose the Tigers donate all their game salaries to Cornerstone Schools every time they lose. Because something positive should come from this team sucking.
- Except for Matt Joyce. He seems to earn his and probably needs it. Unlike say Carlos Guillen, who neither deserves it nor earns it. Or Gary Sheffield. Who for some reason batted third again. Because it worked so well last time he batted third or played left field.
- Forgive my sarcasm, I’m just really growing to dislike this version of the team.
- I echo everything stated by Scott at Quo Vadimus: The Tigers are not fun to watch.
- Yet I keep thinking they’re going to come out of this seasonlong tailspin.
- I obviously learned nothing from all my years as a Tigers fan or I’d know better than to be optimistic.

I have watched every game this year. I feel that I have deserved to provide some insight. And tonight was the straw that broke the camel’s back…
Our starting pitchers do not deserve this shit. I have been seeing it time and time again. But, tonight was the worst.
Lazy-ass Miguel Cabrera sauntering after the ball and (oops) i dropped it.
The worst: Carlos Guillen. Maybe this guy used to be good or average or whatever, but he is not anymore. He plays some of the worst defense in the league. This is the second game that he has allowed the go-ahead run by blowing routine plays.
Solution: There’s really only one in my view, put Inge at third and DH Guillen if they really feel that we can’t do without his bat. Sorry Shef, I don’t know what to do with you if that happened. Guillen and Shef have no business being anywhere near the field. I don’t care if Inge strikes out every time (which he wouldn’t, prob. only 75% of the time) at least we would have an above average third baseman that gives it his all on every play and has one of the best arms in the league (although at times maybe not accurate), but for tyhe most part he is dead-on. If I was an SP in Detroit right now I would demand this. It isn’t right to subject such awesome performances to this kind of shit.
And Leyland, if you can’t do this then you can just leave too. I’d rather have Matt Millen manage the team.
Yes, I’m pissed. I’ve watched all of their games, love this team to death, and i can handle a lot of bad things, but seriously, this stuff is really getting to be a joke. I can handle it when our team isn’t hitting, or pitching well, or whatever. But, when i see stuff like this it pisses me off.
Leyland, grow a pair and do what you need to and quit worrying about offending or destroying loyalties. This is the price that must be paid if we are going to go anywhere this year.
I’m out.
