Game 6: MEHHHHHHHHHH

posted in 2008 season |

White Sox 13,
Tigers 2

Record: 0-6

Hope in sight? None.

Recap: MEH!!!!!!!!!

And assorted swear words that you may or may not be able to string together in your head with the skill and nimbleness my mind was doing the final two hours of the game.

Poor hitting continued. (The “greatest lineup in baseball” averages 2.5 runs per game.) The Tigers hit into five double plays. They stranded nine runners.

Poor fielding continued. Justin Verlander allowed nine runs, four earned. You don’t do that without some beautifully awful defense behind you. I’m talking IMMACULATE. Like a dropped ball at first base by Joe Morgan’s gold glover, Carlos Guillen. Yorman Bazardo didn’t get as lucky as Justin Verlander — his four runs were earned. Ask him about Miguel Cabrera’s defense — or don’t. And yet the White Sox were the team with three errors and Detroit just one …

Poor pitching continued: You don’t gie up nine runs without some pretty bad pitches too. Verlander threw 46 balls of 109 pitches. And the ones that were strikes fell a really far way from home plate.

Analysis:

What can really be said? They stink right now. They are awful in all areas of the game. That can’t go on forever. But for now, it pretty much seems like it. Maybe the change in location to Fenway Park on Tuesday will help. I don’t see them as playing the Red Sox so much as playing themselves. Right now it wouldn’t matter if they were playing a Double-A team, I’m pretty sure. They suck.

Meh.

It’s seriously nice to see someone being negative. I think most of those ideas ran through my head last night at some point. It just feels like every game will be like this. I’m not sure if it’s possible for them to score more than 5 runs in a game. They look awful.

Reading the blogs today, few had anything positive after that one. I think we’re probably all glad the Tigers have Monday off because we don’t want to deal with another #$%#@ game today. Maybe tomorrow.

I agree that getting on the road will probably help. I don’t know if being in Boston helps much of anything though. They need to start winning just as badly as we do and they will be home for the first time this season and getting their rings. It sounds less than ideal.

I remember an opening day ring ceremony that was less than ideal as well, just a little closer to home. I think you can read way too much into those things. They’re not going to go “oh lookee, we have a ring!” and magically play any better.

I don’t think anyone can really say they have a clue how either team is going to respond Tueday, to be honest with you. If they do, make sure you’re wearing waders!
