Game 2: Tigers blanked by Royals
posted in 2008 season |Kansas City 4, Detroit (0-2) 0
Recap
The Tigers are 0-2 in the afternoon with another couple of afternoon games to go this week. Edgar Renteria had three hits. The Detroit Tigers had three hits. Do the math. Kenny Rogers allowed a pair of runs, as did Zach Miner.
Detroit’s heralded offense has scored four runs in 20 innings. The Tigers moved one runner into scoring position Wednesday and are hitting .191 with 19 strikeouts through two games. (Associated Press)
Ouch. This time the strikeouts were scattered throughout the lineup.
Analysis
Given it’s pretty annoying to start the season with just four runs in two games, and 12 scoreless innings, unfortunately, this is the time of the year the offense is a bit slow. The game-time temperature was 51 degrees, and the pitching was ahead of the hitting. Not much analyzing to do on that. I’m not going to be doing any worrying anytime soon. I just wish they’d put the games on at times I could watch. But I suppose a large chunk of the fans agree. And besides, it would be all the colder in the evenings anyway and we’d like to get this offense started.
Bright points? Zach Miner had three strikeouts in his two innings of work and came within an out of getting out of the eighth inning without allowing a run. Kenny Rogers was pitching a fabulous game for the most part. Both of his runs were allowed with a pair of outs, too.

I think that’s the silver lining here so far: the pitching has been pretty decent. We know the bats will come around, there are way too many guys with solid track records. If the pitching can keep up what they’ve done in these two games the team should be in great shape.
