You throw the ball; you hit the ball…

Spring Training’s initial phase ends today, as the Tigers are currently playing their annual Florida Southern pre-exhibition exhibition game. The regular lineup began the game by starting the regulars in a bit different batting order — and with Todd Jones as the starting pitcher. The first time through the batting order, Placido Polanco, Miguel Cabrera and Brandon Inge homered. (Update: Cabrera crushed it, Beck blogs). Then the regulars left the game. It’s 6-1 after two complete innings. (Scott Sizemore homered for the Tigers, while Jordan Tata gave up a dinger to FSO’s Brian Schultz.

To follow the rest of the game, watch the live update here at FSO’s Web site. (Hat tip Bilfer).

Update: Tigers win 17-4. Most of the heavy lifting was done by guys who won’t make the trip north. All of the runs were allowed by Jordan Tata. The Tigers had 10 extra-base hits (5 homers) in 17 hits.

Noteworthy, Colin Kaline of Florida Southern (grandson to THAT Kaline) went 0-for-4.
