Well, with the Canadian dollar...

I understand why he'd want to start, but I thought most players dreamed of winning a world series ring. Where are his chances going to be better at this point?

he has a better chance to win a ring with Detroit than any other team he would go to

backup Cabrera or go start for the blue jays...what would you pick?

Yeah, I guess I'm in that line of thinking as well. The Tigers do owe him $19 million and he should be happy with that. However, it would be a nice gesture for them to honor his request. I think he could possibly earn his $19 million as a utility player next year with the Tigers given his versatility.

I like Inge, as I've said, but I don't buy "owe him."

The Tigers don't owe him anything except $19.1M. They and he agreed to a 4-year contract. They agreed to pay, he agreed to play whatever they ask. That's a lot of money. The Tigers are guaranteed to be on the hook for their end even if he gets injured. You'd hope he would be on the hook to keep up his side of it, even if he's a backup.

It's obviously good business to try to move him at his request --you want to be known as a player-friendly team--but not at a negative impact to the franchise. I don't want to see them swallow this one in a crappy deal just to do what's best for Inge's desires.

I agree. It's not my money so it's easy to say he's worth keeping around. What's the real difference between $130million and $136 million. Given Guillen and others history with injuries it'd be nice to have Inge around. However, I do feel the Tigers owe Inge the courtesy of doing what he would like. Too bad we won't get much in return.

I'll go with 9 positions. I know someone who used to face him in high school -- he was apparently a hell of a pitcher back then. I don't believe he pitched once he got to college (just played SS, right?) but I'd wager he could get a few outs in a pinch.

True. But right now, I think you have to rank Inge about Santiago as far as infield backups go.

Once the dust settles, probably closer to Spring Training, I'll look at what I think the 25 man should look like. Right now, I don't put much thought into it because I realized after the big trade don't have a clue who is actually going to be with the team!
