Most improved?
posted in 2006-07 offseason, projections |At the re-vamped Yahoo! Sports, their video topic was the three most-improved teams this offseason. Yahoo “expert” (let’s face it, no one really has a clue what’s going to happen) Tim Brown named his three most improved teams. Who ended up No. 1? The Tigers. Wow. Unexpected.
He said the Gary Sheffield deal was understated, lost in the fray of all the other bigger deals out there, but ultimately, just the upgrade Detroit needed to remain the American League favorites in 2007.
Agree? Disagree? I think it was a great move, and they are improved for it. Along with the continued development of some pitchers, plus the defense of Brandon Inge and Curtis Granderson, Detroit should be fine. But most improved? I don’t know about that.
But it’s nice to get the publicity.
Sphere It
I’m not sure it was understated as much as just happened so early in the off season. When you are followed by large signings of D-Mat, JD Drew, Gil Meche, Bonds, Zito, etc it’s pretty easy to get forgotten especially when the Tigers didn’t give up all that much.
I agree with you that it was a great move but the Tigers are not the most improved this off season :/ They had a good off season but Cleveland, Boston notably had better. The good thing is that the Tigers didn’t need all that much so it might just be irrelevant anyway
I think it was a great move for the 2007 Tiger team, but I think it’s silly to say they’re the most improved. They’re not going to improve much on 95 wins and they certainly aren’t going to improve much on their postseason. Not only that, they are bringing back a vast majority of their playoff roster with all the other changes besides Sheff coming in relatively minor roles. Other teams improved more because they had more room for improvement.
I’m putting the Cubs No. 1 for most improved. Maybe not most intelligently improved, but certainly improved.
