What we learned this week: “you are not the world champions”
posted in link roundup |Well, besides I didn’t post a lot during the Tigerfest and caravan, what we did learn?
We learned it was “cold” in Detroit, but 12,000+ people showed at Comerica Park. Two words: North Face. You wouldn’t feel a bit of cold!
… that expectations are understandably high by the Tigers and fans, and that Curtis Granderson really enjoyed himself. (see photo on that link).
… that “you are not world champions” so there is still work to be done.
… that Jim Leyland likes Hohos and Twinkies (From the Copa)
… that Kenny Rogers doesn’t care about the smudge on his hand. He more-or-less called the talk whining, but I loved this quote in the MLB.com article by Jason Beck.
“Their inability to hit the ball, if you can’t hit a 40-something guy, it’s your own fault. It’s not my fault.”
… that Leyland takes the blame for bringing Neifi Perez to the Tigers. … that Leyland expects Perez to play better if he’s going to make the team (via DTW). We don’t expect Perez to, but you never know.
… that Gary Sheffield he believes he’s going to be a good teammate. And he talks a lot.
… that Christopher Bob Shelton thinks he knows why his swing got messed up. (He tried too hard to pull the ball).
… that the whole team is working to cut down on strikeouts.
… that the Detroit News did a great job on its baseball coverage this week, judging by the number of links I just sent to its articles. Nicely done, Lynn and Tom.
… that Todd Jones is entertaining to have around. And he wants to be around someone’s dugout next year, anyway.
… that Tigerblog-ger Brian did a great interview in two parts with Ernie Harwell at The Hardball Times.
… that thanks to Baseball Prospectus‘ PECOTA release on Jan. 15, two bloggers have written posts. Brian did one on Jeremy Bonderman. Lee at Tiger Tales did a ranging one that agrees with me that PECOTA was low-balling Gary Sheffield.
