Woody Paige: Out-of-Touch
posted in Random |Okay. So that headline is not groundbreaking journalism, is it?
I’m flipping stations this morning (somewhere?) and Cold Pizza is on and they’re complaining about the weather in St. Louis, so Paige flippantly refers to his plan: Play the World Series in a warm-weather place, like the Super Bowl typically does. That way fans can get away and make a little vacation out of it.
Right now, he says, Tigers and Cardinals fans could be enjoying a nice week in Hawaii. (Awhile back, a Tigers fan did just that!) Yeah. Or, Tigers fans could be watching games played in Hawaii from their television sets because who can actually afford to go out and see their team play? Not many of the real fans. Maybe some of the suite fans.
This man has lived in the free tickets, free airfare world for too long. He’s flippin’ nuts!
Not that you didn’t already know that, but rainouts make it hard to find quality afternoon content!
Update: Apparently this is also an Outside The Lines topic.
Update 2: Everyone at ESPN is getting into the game now.
Sphere It
Has MLB, and FOX for that matter, been handling the weather issues very well? Hell, no. 2 hours of “The War at Home,” while teasing that the game could start at anytime last night, will attest to that…
But Paige’s suggestion is just more clueless blatherings from a sell out former columnist.
Woody Paige is one of the poster boys, along with Skip Bayless and Screamin’ A. Smith, for the utter suckitude of the ESPN “Sports Entertainment” shows.
Well you have to realize that ESPN is a flaming pile of garbage and this is the run of the mill tripe that they run. Mistake one: tuning into or reading ESPN. I made the same mistake today and it got me to posting as well.
I hate this idea. The weather elements are part of what makes this game unique and I would hate for the hometown fans to not be able to enjoy the games.
I’ve been able to go to all of the home playoff games (there are pictures on my blog - zorak163.blogspot.com - if you’re interested) and I would not have been able to have this experience if the games would have been somewhere else.
Hawaii’s great! But not for the World Series. It’s too relaxing there, no one would be able to get up for any of the games. And dealing with a six-hour time change is tough.
I saw the show for the first and last time. Woody Paige is an absolute idiot. Play the games in Hawaii and start the season a month earlier. Do they allow people to think on the show? Start the season earlier? Oh that’s great. Lets go to to Comerica in March to watch the Tigers. What??? The northern cities have enough problem in April with cold. You can’t play the the March games in the south because that would be such an unbalanced schedule. Then he suggest a Hawaii World Series? DUH! Besides not allowing their core fans to enjoy the series, who’s going to buy tickets for games 5,6 and 7? Plan an expensive trip to see your team and then they don’t play. How this guys gets paid for crap like that is beyond me. How the shows stays on the air is beyond me.
