It would be a lot more fun for me if the Tigers were advancing against any team but Oakland. I thought it would be nice to have a team guaranteed to be in the World Series, but it's kind of sad seeing the A's lose once they finally got this far, even if they're losing to my hometown Tigers.

If and when the Tigers get to the WS, I'll be glad to get back to the merciless joy of winning.

Wow, what a finish to the game last night. After Jones struck out the first two I thought to myself, "no way will it be this easy." I thought this because Jones always seems to give up at least one hit, and he does not typically strike many out. So what happens, three consecutive singles to load the bases. I must admit that I was fearing the worse, especially once Bradley came to the plate. The fact that we held him to a single seemed like a victory in my mind. Then we have to deal with Big Frank. Wow, he just missed that pitch. It looked as if he found the sweet spot and was under it just a bit. I had a chance to see an Oakland-Detroit game this spring (the game right after Leyland's blowup) and it was the first time I had ever seen Thomas play. He hit a fly ball to the warning track off of Verlander in that game that I didn't think was ever going to come down. The fly out to end the game last night seemed the same way.

Another thought from this series so far. I am not familiar with Marco Scutaro outside of the postseason. I know he played well against the Twins, but am I the only Tiger fan who has found myself chanting Mar-co Scut-aro while watching him hit? I found myself starting to chant this toward the end of game 1 when he seemed to make a big out every time he came up. I know he is just playing because of an injury, but I couldn't help but pick up the chant after listening to the A's fans do it in each of the first 2 games (although it keeps getting quieter).

Well, that is enough of my random thoughts for the morning. I am kind of all over the place as it is still before 8AM and I got all of 5 hours of sleep last night thanks to the Tigers making the game so exciting last night. I was wired for a good hour to hour and a half after the game, but I am paying for it this morning.

[...] Mack Avenue Tigers: A Detroit Tigers Blog » ALCS Game 2: Alexis WHO? And so Detroit returns to the cold confines of Comerica Park with a 2-0 lead in the ALCS. That’s not insurmountable in its own right. But right about now, it looks like the Tigers are not going let this series even get back to the west coast. I’m starting to get that team-of-destiny feeling. I keep trying to push it away for fear of disappointment. But it’s there. This is getting pretty fun. [...]
