Tigers, 11-4. A nine run second, home runs by Craig Monroe, Brandon Inge and Matt Stairs, and fine pitching by soon-to-be Rookie of the Year Justin Verlander was all it took. Symbolically (minus the run), 2006 first round draftee Andrew Miller closed out the ninth with a strikeout. Oh, and the Tigers recaptured the best record in baseball with Yankees and Mets losses.
Detroit returns to the post season for the first time in 19 years! I was too young to remember that one, so this is just awesome.
It’s too bad you were too young to remember. I was working downtown in ‘87 & ‘84, and a young baseball fanatic in ‘68. So, I just hope the coming days will bring you nothing but great Tiger memories. I have never stopped doubting my Tigers…”Sock it to ‘em Tigers”!!!
I cannot wait for the postseason to start. I was 8 in 1987 and kind of remember being disappointed that the Tigers lost to the Twins. I don’t remember 1984 at all. Hopefully the 2006 season will be as memorable for the postseason as it was for the regular season!
