Game 140: Tigers wait out 189-minute rain delay, then lose

posted in Seattle Mariners, The Stretch Run |

Top of the 10th: Well, Detroit hasn’t lost but if the Mariners don’t put up a crooked number in the 10th I’ll be amazed. So, I’m assuming the Tigers will lose 2 of 3 to Seattle and head to Minnesota for more.

Bottom of the 10th: The Tigers got out of a no-out, bases loaded situation by giving up just one run in the tenth. Sean Casey ground into a double play with runners on first and second in the bottom half of the inning for a 5-4 loss.

I’m  so sick of this team. I’m not even going to write anything else today.

I was sick today, so I didn’t go to work.

And I stayed home to listen to this garbage effort by the Tigers’ hitters.

Casey needs to sit down. He hit into 2 Double Plays in this series, the last two games, to end each game.

He’s also showing absolutely no plate patience at all, which is a Detroit Tigers hitter disease afflicting the entire team.

    We are in deep trouble.

The problem I see with sitting Casey is the replacement player. Do we want to ride out this Twins series, or even part of it, with Shelton at first base? Methinks not.

I agree that it appears Casey is swinging a slow bat these days but who the hell isn’t, really, when you go up and down the lineup?

Polanco needs to get back and right quick. The Neifi Perez/Ramon Santiago platoon of sorts just isn’t/won’t cut it at short over the next three weeks.

Finally, I think the boys are pressing. Perhaps a road trip is what they need. Not that the Metrodome would be my first choice, mind you. Perhaps Kansas City.

Verlander’s start is key. He’ll set the tone for the weekend.
